Los problemas sociales revelados a partir de la ficción crítica francesa: Cora dans la spirale de Vincent Message

Abstract

Following the research project La littérature de terrain qui vise à réparer le monde, carried out between 2019 and 20221, this article offers a socio-critical reading of a contemporary novel: Vincent Message’s Cora dans la spirale (2019). It is important to specify the emphasis placed on the methodological approach aimed at facilitating a future application of this socio-critical approach by any reader to other texts. First, it is a question of developing a framework from critical theory that gives the definitions of the key concepts adapted to this literary narrative: sociogram, sociotext/chronotope, and discursive and social mediations, which concern the literary domain, as well as two other fundamental criteria for the present analysis, habitus and social imaginary, borrowed from sociology. This defining reference is based on the contribution of socio-critics and sociologists such as Claude Duchet, Patrick Maurus, Pierre Popovic, Anthony Glinoer, and Pierre Bourdieu, or thinkers like François Hartog and Dominique Viart, with the aim of nourishing our reading thanks to the appropriation of categories of other disciplines. Secondly, this same conceptual paradigm supports the reading to reveal the underlying socio-economic cogs that deeply disturb the existence of the protagonists. To this, it must be added that the proposed approach is intended to be open and perfectible as desired by plural socio-criticism, personal and collective, heterogeneous and internationalist.
