dc.description.abstractThe social and political context in Germany after the defeat suffered in World War 11 experienced a radical change and a new beginning. In the specific case of the German Democratic Republic it also implied the possibility to have a better life, for it kept the hope in the socialist utopia alive, in spite of the repressive measures and problems it had to face. Heiner Müller was one of the many intellectuals compromised with this ideology and the creation of this new country he believed in as a writer, and its disappearance became for him a great disappointment and frustration that are manifested in his poem Mommsens Block, where he reflects and questions the utility of History and the reformatory capacity of men.

dc.description.resumenAl final de la Segunda Guerra Mundial en la zona de ocupación soviética, la posterior República Democrática Alemana, se impuso un sistema de gobierno que para mucha gente pareció una mejor opción de vida, pues mantuvo viva la esperanza en la realización de la utopía socialista, a pesar de las medidas represivas y las problemáticas del mismo. Heiner Müller fue uno de los tantos intelectuales comprometidos con esta ideología y con la construcción de este nuevo país, sobre el cual escribió prácticamente en su obra entera y por cuya desaparición experimentó una gran decepción y frustración que se ven plasmadas en su poema Mommsens Block, una reflexión y un cuestionamiento sobre la utilidad de la historia y la capacidad reformativa del hombre.
