De animales y obsesiones

Abstract

Animals have always been part of the literary universe and their presence can be observed in different genres, from fables and medieval bestiaries to contemporary narrative, as seen in Amparo Dávila’s work. These creatures, either imaginary or real, respond to diverse functions inside a text which can also be interpreted at different levels, an aspect that can lead us to the study of the inner part of a human being; it can take us to the incarnation of phantoms, obsessions, our most profound desires and anguishes, to the representation of life and death impulses and the projection of our deepest conflicts. That is why the aim of this article is to elaborate a classification of the species that are present in some of the Mexican author’s tales in order to reveal, through the analysis of their roles, the logic that lies beneath their appearance and the tight relations that exists between humans and animals.
